I study the transmission dynamics of chronic viral infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis C virus. Specifically, I use phylodynamics and phylogeography to estimate virus transmission parameters and evaluate prevention strategies. Most of my previous work was concentrated on HIV-1 in populations of people who inject drugs in Eastern Europe and in Portugal. My new project focuses on the application of portable genetic sequencing technology and phylodynamics to the study of chronic viral infections transmission in populations of forcibly displaced people. I am also a non-stipendiary Junior Research Fellow of New College.
